In Nine Perfect Strangers Hulu Proves We’ve All Swallowed The Kool-Aid

After bingeing Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers I had to wonder—has wellness lunacy has reached its peak? Without spoiling the story, the show is centered around nine guests attending a retreat at a wellness spa. The conceit is that a former tycoon from Russia, Masha as played by Nicole Kidman, opened the center following a near-death experience. Part of the treatment regimen involves microdosing the guests with proprietary blends of psilocybins and mystery. The other ingredients are never made clear.

As someone who ran international marketing campaigns, then — following personal trauma — dropped out of the corporate world to become a yoga teacher and spent a decade studying meditation, ayurveda, and mind-body healing, I would never claim to know how even commonplace pharmaceuticals interact with one another, let alone what side effects might arise from adding hallucinogens to the mix. And while admittedly, I’ve added lavender essential oil to cream and purred about its soothing effects, I never lost sight of the fact that I was kinda full of shit.
