GenZ To The Rescue Again
If you haven’t been following the shitshow that is the Texas legislature’s (read white men’s) overreach into female healthcare, then WHY ARE YOU READING ME AT ALL?
Nothing, however, has been as gratifying to watch as the TikTok response from Sean Black—aka @Black_Madness21—who managed to jam the Texas Right to Life stool pigeon page. Essentially, he created a code to help others pepper the Texas site with false reports. I’m choking as I type that because what is a true report? We’re talking about ratting out another human seeking healthcare.
It’s not the first time such a tactic has been used. TikTokkers have previously employed this strategy, which doesn’t make this instance any less delicious. Thank you.
GoDaddy has stepped up and disabled their page, a heartening sign but not a permanent solution.
This ban will spur other states to take action. Currently, Texas is one of 14 states with laws that circumscribe women’s healthcare at eight weeks or less of pregnancy. Other states with similar bans in court include Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah. Though this decision won’t automatically cause these other laws to pass, it sets a strong precedent. So, while the state of Florida isn’t officially on that list, its governor has vowed to enact restrictions ASAP. And that’s just one of the 34 states that are prepared to overturn healthcare rights for women.
Given that the Supreme Court is ruled by a conservative majority which allowed this change in law to stand, I would feel the situation is grim…
